Attachment to place is a pathology virtually unknown in deracinated cultures predominant in North America, and Australia. The sooner people and governments become non-sectarian, the more likely they will survive the challenges of the coming decades.

While both the governments of Israel and Palestine in no uncertain terms endorse and pursue ethnic cleansing, Israel is the worrying example of a regressed liberal society. The recently failed maneuver to block minority parties in the Knesset is the clearest example of what is gripping a virtually rogue nuclear power.

I don't have any ill will against Jews or Arabs. If there is such a thing as a "model minority," Jewish people have certainly been that in liberal societies, and have been key supporters of democracy tempered by minority and individual rights. I could learn to love Arabic culture if they would learn to love something besides themselves and religion. I should reserve that criticism for my own culture as well. Learning to love one subject is usually the start of all higher attempts at education. Most of the Jihadists are middle class though, and that complicates my hopes for a more just and secure future.

Regardless, if conflict between the theocratic world and the liberal world is an Hegelian inevitability, then Israel is a poor proxy.
